Lighting splits in two across the US tariff. Complete fixtures and luminaires take heading 9405, in the furniture and lamps chapter, and bulbs and LED lamps take heading 8539, in electrical goods. Heading 9405 has lines designed solely for LED light sources: fixtures of base metal for ceiling or wall on 9405.11.60 print 7.6%, and those of brass on 9405.11.40 print 3.9%. Lamps vary, with a sealed beam unit on 8539.10 at 2%. For China, these show List 3: +25%. So $10,000 of those base metal fixtures comes to $4,510 (45.1%) from China and $2,010 (20.1%) from Vietnam in this tool. Metal fixtures can also be listed under Section 232 derivatives, which the tool shows when they are. Read in 2026 HTS Revision 22 on November 2, 2026. Parts of lamps have their own lines at 9405.91 and below.

Check the material split

Heading 9405’s lines ask what the fixture is mainly made of, such as brass, other base metal, glass or plastics. Brass reads differently from steel. Glass parts of fixtures take other lines. Chimneys, a part on 9405.91.40, print 7.5%. Ask the supplier about the main material by weight, then use the lookup.

Compliance is separate

Any electrical safety or energy rules are not duties. We did not read them, and this page does not cover them.

Questions importers ask

Is an LED strip a fixture or a lamp?

We read no ruling on LED strips, so we do not say which applies. Heading 8539 covers lamps and light sources, and 9405 covers luminaires and lighting fittings, so ask whether your article is a light source or a complete fitting. Decide from its description and connectors, then search the rulings database with your product’s details, because the rates of these lines differ.

What code covers solar garden lights?

Heading 9405 covers luminaires and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified, so start there and read its current lines, which also split by whether the fitting is designed solely for LED light sources. We read no ruling on solar models. Use the current wording, not an old code from a supplier’s invoice, which may refer to an earlier revision of the schedule.

Are LED bulbs under the same China list as fixtures?

Many lamp and fixture lines show List 3 at +25%, but this is line by line, so test your exact code. In the release we read, chapter 94 has 102 lines with a list and chapter 85 has 552. Those counts include all sorts of goods, so use the calculator with your line rather than relying on any general statement about lighting.
