Jewelry takes two headings in chapter 71 of the US tariff. Heading 7113 holds articles of precious metal or metal clad with it, and 7117 holds imitation jewelry. A gold rope necklace on 7113.19.21 prints 5%, a silver chain on 7113.11.10 prints 6.3%, and imitation cuff links on 7117.11.00 print 8%. Lines also split by what the piece is, and by value in some cases. Chinese goods carry List 4A: +7.5% on these, but some toy jewelry lines show none. The country duty adds 10% for India and 12.5% for Thailand, unless the code is on the exemption list. So $10,000 of those necklaces comes to $1,500 (15%) from India and $2,500 (25%) from China in this calculator, before fees. Rates are from 2026 HTS Revision 22, read on November 2, 2026.

Precious or imitation

Decide by what the piece is actually made of, not by the look. For silver, the lines split by whether the article is rope, curb, cable and similar chain forms, then by value: 7113.11.20, valued at not over $18 per dozen, prints 13.5%. Imitation pieces valued at very low amounts may be toy jewelry, such as 7117.19.05, which prints Free and shows None for China. Check the wording of the value band.

Questions importers ask

Does gold plating change the jewelry code?

It can. Heading 7113 covers articles of precious metal or of metal clad with it. Note 7 to chapter 71 defines clad as a covering affixed by soldering, brazing, welding, hot-rolling or similar mechanical means. Note 11 lets imitation jewelry of 7117 have precious metal as plating or as minor constituents. Ask the supplier how the layer was applied, as that can change both heading and rate.

Do loose diamonds pay duty?

Loose stones are in other headings of chapter 71, such as 7102 for diamonds, and they have rates and treatment of their own. Use the lookup for the duty line, then enter it in the calculator. We did not read rules on the trade in rough diamonds or any sanctions, so ask your broker about those before you ship. They are outside this page, whatever the duty is.

Where do watches and cuff links fit?

Cuff links are named in 7117.11 for imitation jewelry, and note 9 to chapter 71 lists them among articles of jewelry of 7113, so the metal decides. Clocks and watches are left out of chapter 71 by its notes and go to chapter 91, even when made with precious metals. So check chapter 91 separately, rather than using a jewelry code for any watch.
