We cannot tell you what a customs broker costs, because no official source publishes it. We found no fee scale in the federal texts we read, and we chose not to reprint figures from sellers of that service. CBP has pages on customs brokers, which we list as a pointer and did not rely on. What we can do is separate what is official from what is not. The merchandise processing fee, the harbor maintenance fee and duties all go to the government, at the rates on this page. Everything else on a broker’s invoice is a private price, and you can ask for it line by line. Under 19 CFR 111.1, a customs broker is a person licensed to transact customs business on behalf of others. Read on November 2, 2026. Enter the quote under your costs in the calculator.

Low-value goods

19 CFR 143.21 excludes articles over $250 classified in the relevant parts of chapter 99 from informal entry, so a shipment of that kind goes to formal entry, with the fee shown above. Ask your broker what that means for bonds, as we did not read a rule on them for this page.

How to use the calculator

Open the costs panel, and enter the full quote in the broker and bond field. That amount adds to your total. The result separates duties and fees from it, so you can see what is negotiable. Our site sells no broker service and refers no one to any provider.

Questions importers ask

Do I need a customs broker to import goods?

The text of 19 U.S.C. 1484 lets the owner or purchaser act as importer of record, in person or through an authorized agent, and 19 CFR 111.1 defines a broker as someone licensed to transact customs business for others. Whoever files, the importer of record must use reasonable care. Ask a broker or CBP about bonds and systems for your case, as we read no rule on them here.

What should I ask a broker before hiring one?

Ask for the price per entry and per added line, what the fee is for each other agency, the charge for paying duties on your behalf, the bond’s cost, and any monthly minimum. Ask who checks classification, and whether they carry errors and omissions cover. Comparing written quotes on the same sample shipment shows far more than comparing the headline price per entry.

Is a broker’s fee part of the customs value?

The calculator does not count it in the value, because 19 CFR 152.102 and 152.103 build transaction value from the price paid for the goods and a closed list of additions, and a US clearance fee is not on that list as we read it. It is part of your landed cost, so the calculator adds it to the total and changes no percentage. A broker or counsel can confirm this for your contract.
